Degrees and Certifications
Accounting (Associate Degree)
The accounting program teaches students both technical accounting skills and interpersonal and written communication skills. The curriculum is presented in a manner that allows students to work toward their degree and at the same time prepare for the certifications that leaders in the business community have specifically noted as valued and required skills. The program is designed to prepare the student for successful completion of all three parts of the Certified Bookkeeper Exam, as administered by the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB). At least two years' full-time experience, or the part-time or freelance equivalent, is necessary in order to become an AIPB Certified Bookkeeper. This program will also assist students in preparing for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exam. Please refer to the \Certification, State Board, and National Board Exams\" section of the catalog for further guidance on all exams."
Accounting (Certificate Program)
Students may enroll in the Accounting certificate program without a degree or previous experience. Credit hours earned in the program may be applied toward an associate degree program. The accounting certificate program teaches students both technical accounting skills and interpersonal and written communication skills. Criminal Justice (Associate Degree)
The Criminal Justice Program at Andover College can prepare students for the challenges of entry-level employment by providing the knowledge, skills, physical wellness, and ethical / professional behavior standards necessary to meet the ever-changing demands of the Criminal Justice System. This program allows students to demonstrate a general knowledge of the criminal justice system as well as a working knowledge of behavior that constitutes a crime and the steps an officer may take to apprehend criminals and bring them forth for prosecution. Students also can develop excellent oral and written language skills to become good communicators and demonstrate knowledge of law enforcement authority and discretion.
Early Childhood Education (Associate Degree)
The Early Childhood Program can provide students an education that will prepare them for work either directly with young children and their families, or in related service and programs. This program gives students the opportunity to have a thorough understanding of developmentally appropriate practices as set by the NAEYC, be an advocate for ethical practices in all early childhood settings, understand the developmental stages of childhood and gain experiences in a variety of early childhood settings including special needs, public schools, and child care centers. This program is set in a learning environment that uses traditional and innovative instructional methods and promotes a student-centered learning environment in which faculty and staff are accessible and supportive.
Legal Studies (Associate Degree)
The Paralegal Studies program prepares students for work in the vast number of offices employing paralegals, including law offices, legal clinics, government agencies, corporations, and the courts. This is accomplished by instilling in students a love of law, and introducing them to the laws and skills which must be learned to competently provide legal services. Associate degree students learn general legal concepts and procedures through twelve carefully chosen core courses. Students learn specialized skills, including legal research, legal writing, and legal document preparation by practical experience. These skills are emphasized in every course. In addition, students are introduced to law specific programs and services, including Westlaw, Loislaw, Summation Blaze, Timeslips, and Abacus Law. These law specific programs and services may be accessed/utilized both at home and at school. Graduates of this program may be eligible to sit for the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) exam, sponsored by the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA).
