College Profile: Hair Design Institute at Fifth Avenue-Brooklyn
Our objective is to provide a course of instruction that equips and prepares our students to meet all the requirements necessary to become licensed hairdressers.
The school tries to provide each student with the training and expertise he or she will need to realize his or her own potential in a cosmetology career. The school maintains a staff of qualified instructors who possess years of experience as licensed operators and licensed teachers. All faculty members are required by state regulations to maintain teacher licenses as issued by the New York State Education Department.
The faculty members must attend specified occupational teacher training programs to qualify for their New York State Education Department license. In addition, the school has regularly scheduled in-service teacher training sessions.
The Hair Design Institute is constantly improving their facilities to meet the criteria of modern, up to date cosmetology schools. The school is over 3,000 square feet. The Fifth Avenue School has a capacity of 74 day and 74 evening students. The school has a Senior Clinic area where students practice on live patrons, an Intermediate Practice Room which is used for mannequin work, and a Demonstration Classroom which is used to both demonstrate the practical work and impart the theory that must be covered during the program. The remaining space is utilized for offices, locker rooms, rest rooms and private offices for interviewing and student advising. The clinic areas are furnished with student workstations, and simulate actual shop operation. Student activities are directed and supervised by the teaching staff. Since the Hair Design Institute is located in an urban area, it is convenient to various methods of public transportation.
