College Profile: Albany BOCES-Adult Practical Nursing Program
The Capital Region Career & Technical School, Albany campus, (formerly known as Vo-Tec) is a career and technical school operated by the Capital Region BOCES. Located at 1015 Watervliet-Shaker Road, the Albany campus offers high school and adult students more than 35 educational programs, including courses for honor students, college-credit bearing courses, and programs for students with special educational needs. The campus also offers GED and adult education programs.
The campus is comprised of six buildings, linked by covered walkways and surrounded by trees and greenery. Inside, students will find classrooms featuring the latest technology and equipment for each career and technical program, and faculty and staff who are experts in their fields, creating an excellent learning environment. Many classrooms are set up like actual businesses, where students work with real customers and gain experience in their trade or profession.
For most Career & Technical School students, learning extends beyond the campus. Field trips and visits, job shadowing, internships and paid employment experiences give our students an edge in careers and college. The Capital Region Career & Technical School partners with local business and industry to offer such opportunities, and employers from our region help us design programs to meet the changing demands of today's workplace.
In fact, the Capital Region Career & Technical School prepares students for employment and/or further study in some of the fastest growing occupations identified by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Capital Region Career & Technical School is committed to helping students meet the state's learning and graduation standards. Academics are integrated into our career and technical education programs, academic faculty are on staff, extra help is provided, and one-year programs have been developed to allow students to spend more time at their home schools.
The Capital Region Career & Technical School offers a separate Practical Nursing program just for adult students. The program encompasses 1,100 hours of classroom and clinical time, and students are eligible to take the N.Y.S. Practical Nursing Examination upon completion. All levels of patient care are covered in our program as well as hands-on supervised clinical experiences at local health care facilities. The Practical Nursing program also gives students a solid foundation to pursue advanced college training.
